Two officers receive department's highest honor
Rocky Mount police Chief Robert Hassell bestowed the department’s highest award to two officers earlier this week.
Sgt. Cameron Joyner and Cpl. Vicky Hussey each was presented with the Medal of Valor at a City Council meeting Monday evening. Joyner and Hussey also received plaques from Mayor Sandy Roberson.
The honor recognizes the bravery shown by both officers during a tense incident involving an exchange of gunfire with a suspect at the Oakwood Shopping Center in the Meadowbrook area nearly a year ago.
