Roberson highlights growing momentum behind ‘Project 336’ at Chamber summit

The adage about thinking big in seeking to recruit new businesses and new development can sum up part of Mayor Sandy Roberson’s remarks at the Rocky Mount Area Chamber of Commerce’s 2024 yearly economic summit Thursday morning.

Roberson, in providing an economic update about Rocky Mount and the Twin Counties region, told the gathering at the Rocky Mount Event Center that maybe the most impactful opportunity that came this way was a once-in-a-lifetime shot to shape the future of the city.

That moment, Roberson said, was when more than 300 acres of prime real estate in Nash County just west of the city and in the vicinity of Interstate 95 and U.S. 64 became available for purchase.

“And our city took a very decisive action to secure this land, consolidating 336 acres into one expansive site, an extraordinary achievement that opens doors to what I believe will be endless possibilities,” Roberson said. “It’s not just a piece of land. It’s a canvas for opportunity, strategically positioned to drive growth and prosperity for our city and its region.”

Roberson noted that the city’s vision for the site is “ambitious yet intentional.”

He made clear that city leaders aim to fully harness the potential of the land, building upon the significant investments the state has already made in improving roads in the immediate vicinity.

And he made clear that he believes these enhancements so far have transformed the area into a prime gateway for progress and have set the stage for something extraordinary.

“Our commitment is clear,” he said. “We are determined to ensure this site becomes a catalyst for capital investment, business creation, job growth and long-term financial benefits that will uplift our entire community.”
