Presidential candidate draws record crowd to event center
The attendance totaled 6,741 for a presidential rally Wednesday at the Rocky Mount Event Center.
The record turnout was for former President Donald Trump who came to Rocky Mount to make his closing arguments in his bid for a second term in the White House.
"Having a candidate like Trump come into town really is helping promote our community and put us on the map as an important part of the electoral process," Mayor Sandy Roberson said.
And Roberson said, "I think the event center staff has done a great job. I have heard nothing but high praise from the Trump campaign, from the state party and from the national party."
Roberson said everyone he had talked to about the rally was pleased with the results.
"That says a lot about our city and a lot of the services that we've been offering," Roberson said, "and the vision the City Council had in building this event space."
