Chamber summit to bring back economics professor by popular demand

The Rocky Mount Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual economic summit is slated to kick off in a week and will feature a speaker returning by popular demand, along with three new speakers, to provide an outlook for 2025 and beyond.

Mouhcine Guettabi, who is an associate professor of economics at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, first spoke at the gathering a few years ago and is known for giving detailed presentations of data in a way that keeps an audience’s attention.

The gathering is set for 7:30 a.m.-10 a.m. Thursday at the Rocky Mount Event Center.

Guettabi is slated to provide a forecast of regional and national economic trends for 2025.

In addition to Guettabi, also on the program to speak are N.C. Community College System President Jeff Cox, Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond Regional Economist Bethany Greene and Rocky Mount Mayor Sandy Roberson.

Roberson, who was first elected Rocky Mount’s mayor in 2019, is slated to speak about initiatives and projects that area residents can look forward to in 2025 and beyond.
