Bill would allow Nash County to veto municipal satellite annexations
A state Senate bill has been amended to include language stating municipalities in Nash County cannot engage in satellite annexations without first having to seek approval from the county Board of Commissioners.
“I mean, I think it’s absolutely just a power play,” he said. “It will hinder our economic growth. I believe that’s bad for the residents of Rocky Mount. I believe that’s bad for the region as a whole — and I believe it’s bad for our community in every regard, all communities within our community.”
He also said, “I don’t see a single scenario where that kind of control from the county is beneficial at all to any municipality in this jurisdiction. It feels like it was done in the dark of night and it was trying to be slipped in.
